My Blog!

It is so hard to get things up and going, and I couldn't get this up without a look I liked. It's like getting a new apartment, and not wanting to have anyone over until everything is in place. Even though it's nice to compare the bare walls and default tiling of before with the finished product, it's hard to focus on much else until the look and feel are right.

So here it is.

About me - I work in the news industry, at a company that owns several different television news sites and newspapers. At corporate, we handle a lot of page-building, site maintenance, and re-designs, but a lot of that stuff is done by the people at the sites themselves, who are producers and journalists first and web developers/designers second. Much of the time it works, a lot of the time it doesn't.

I hope to address a lot of common questions and issues that I come across with articles and instruction geared toward sites that require fast and frequent content change, like news sites. I figure that there are other industries that can benefit from the same information, as well.

I also have recently overseen the transition of close to 300 blogs from Movable Type 3.3 to MT 4.1. It's been a real challenge, but I've enjoyed learning more about MT and watching the blogs move from a basic, thrown-together scheme to a professional and consistent design across the board.. It is nice to see the individual sites take their blogs more seriously now. I have to add that I couldn't have done it without Pavel and Robin from LivingDot -- they answered any and all questions and helped us through all kinds of major issues. They were/are true lifesavers in our little area of the blogosphere.

So welcome. I hope that this blog can be of benefit to many, including myself on my constant quest for better ways to present information online.
